A Caterpillar’s Defense {Western Oklahoma Photographer}

I know I’ve already posted about these neat caterpillars but they are just so amazing I’m posting about them again.

I’ve been finding them on my dill plant all summer. They will become black swallowtail butterflies before too long. Their unusual defense mechanism when touched or bothered is so unusual that I find myself watching them every time I go near.  If I try to touch them, they bring out horrible smelling orange horns and make a green spit bubble to try and scare me off.  I’ve tried really hard to find the chrysalis once they leave the dill but I have not idea where they go. I’ve been reading online and I guess the chrysalis is hard to find in the wild. I’ll keep searching though.
